Modena, known as the birthplace of balsamic vinegar, is a city in the northern region of Italy. The story of balsamic starts in the 1100s when Henry VIII, Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire, was given a “very perfect vinegar” by Bonafico, Marquis of Tuscany.
